Also I just went back there with a garbage bag and threw the dead one away so the smell doesn't attract other predetors . I hope I did the right thing .

Please contact me same incident happened to me today but different . I actually experienced the baby racoons falling out of the nest crying for help , one of them was even hanging by the tail for a while until it finally fell , the tree is located right by a creek I heard the loud cry that's what attracted me initially , well I thought it was best to just walk away and let the mom come and take care of her younglings, I left and came back 30 min after to my great shocking surprise one of them had drounded and was dead I picked the other one up with gloves and placed it further away from the creek , I'm helpless because I hope nothing happened to the mommy I know there are lots of foxes in that area and I quiete frankly don't know what to do without stressing that baby out , I wish I could keep her safe and protect her but I left her there hoping the mom will come back . If there is anything I can do please let md know .

Hi Jamie! Thanks for contacting me!

I'm hoping by this point, the mother has come and rescued the baby. If not, she may be unable to - she might be sick or have been hit by a car or something. It can be heartbreaking to watch a baby cry for his mother, especially when he is so high up in a tree! I'm assuming that because the baby is so high up in a tree, you can't tell how old he is. If his eyes are open, then he has a good chance of climbing down safely, even though he may be scared to do so. If the eyes aren't open, then he may need a bit of help! If you have a ladder that's tall enough, you can use that to rescue the baby. If you don't, just keep watching for him to fall - it sounds terrible, but baby raccoons can survive falls from pretty decent heights and be okay! If possible, make sure the area around the tree is soft - if the tree is right next to the road or a driveway, consider putting down some wood chips or a thick blanket, in case the baby falls on that area.

Once the baby is on the ground, use some thick gloves to pick him up and put him in a cardboard box. Then call a wildlife rehabilitator in your area who takes raccoons. Where are you located? I can try to find a raccoon rehabber in your area for you!

Hi, my family and I recently discovered a raccoon living in our yard. We have watched the raccoon often over the last month. To our surprise, we awoke this morning to the sound of a crying baby raccoon. The mother has not returned. I am exploring options in case the mother does not return by tomorrow. The baby is high in a tree and seems desperate to get down, but is afraid to climb out. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you so much for your time.

Hi,

Thank you so much for the beautiful thank you note and the blog, video and pictures. It's so nice to see that my donation made a difference and it made me laugh to see that Foxy Loxy loved the food so much! All the best to you from California.
